What is an RSG certificate?
RSG certificate is the Responsible Service of Gambling certificate and is a requirement if you are to be serving patrons where gambling and poker machines are on premises. Having your RSG certificate is mandatory and permits you to work anywhere gambling services are provided in NSW. This includes:
- Poker machines in pubs clubs and hotels
- All gaming in casinos.
- Sports gambling such as horseracing, greyhound racing and football

Yes, the assessment consists of short answer and multiple choice questions.

Do I need the RSG if I have my RSA?
To find a job it helps to have your RCG (Responsible Conduct of Gaming) as well as your RSA. Most pubs, clubs and hotels have poker machines and will require you to have both the RSA & RCG. This adds diversity to your employment potential. Sometimes you will be required to work behind the bar and sometimes you will be required to work in the gaming area where the poker machines are located
Do I need to do a Bar & Cocktail Course if I have my RSG?
If you seek a job in a club, pub or hotel you will be required to work in the gaming area as well as the bar. If you have NO bar experience or skills, the employer will tell you they require staff who already have bar skills and that they do not have the time to teach you how to make all the drinks and cocktails. It increases your chances of employment if you do the bar course as employers want someone with practical bar skills who can begin working immediately. Our Bar Skills course is non-accredited course and you will only receive a certificate of attendance after course completion
Do I need to do an Accredited Barista Course if I have my RSG?
By having barista coffee skills as well as your RSG you will have many more job opportunities. Most pubs, clubs and hotels have espresso machines. They therefore require the bar staff to have the coffee skills also. It increases your chances of employment if you do the barista coffee course as employers want someone with practical bar and coffee skills who can begin working immediately
What is the RSA Responsible Service of Alcohol?
The RSA is required by law to provide a duty of care to patrons in liquor licensed venues such as bars, pubs, hotels, restaurants, cafés and bottle-shops. Coffee School is authorised by the NSW Justice Office of Liquor & Gaming
The RSA is mandatory in NSW to find a job where alcohol is service

What is an RSA NSW Interim Certificate?
- The Interim Certificate is issued at the end of your class
- It allows you to commence working immediately
- It is valid for 90 days only for working
- Within 90 you must take it to Service NSW Shop to have your Photo taken for your Competency card which will be posted to your address
What is an RSA NSW Competency Card?
The Competency Card allows you to work where alcohol is served in NSW. It is illegal to work without it in licensed venues.
How do I get the Competency Card?
After you have finished your course you must take your Interim Certificate with 100 Points of ID to a Service NSW.The value of your ID must total 100 points – as explained on the back of your interim certificate
How long is the Competency Card valid?
It is valid for 5 years.
After five years you can do a refresher course with the NSW office of Justice RSA refresher
The Competency Card allows you to work where alcohol is served in NSW. It is illegal to work without the RSA in licensed venues.
What is an RSA Statement Of Attainment?
The Statement of Attainment SITHFAB002 Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol is a Nationally Recognised certificate

Can I use my RSA NSW Interim Certificate after 90 days?
You cannot use your Interim Certificate for working purposes after 90 days but you can still take it to the Service NSW to create your competency card
How can I change my Name, Title or Date of Birth on my NSW interim certificate?
If you must change your Name Title otr Date of Birth on your Interim Certificate you must complet the cc0300 Ammendement Form click here and submit to Office of Liquor Gaming & Racing Level 6, 323 Castlereagh St Haymarket NSW 2000 or Email: emailto:competencycard@olgr.nsw.gov.au
How can I change my postal address on my NSW interim certificate?
If your address has changed since completing your course simlply notify the Service NSW at the time of taking your photo
How can I pay for my course
By VISA or Mastercard online. When you have selected your course we will present you with a secure payment window where your details are sent via the latest encrypted technology to ensure that your personal information is secure. The coffee school does not store you credit card details.
Is the RSG course practical?
No it is theoretical pen and paper course in a classroom. You do not learn how to make drinks in the RSA. If you want to learn Bar & Cocktails in QLD please view our Bar & Cocktails Course
